Anthony Martinez (Tony) was born on March 25, 1955, to Sylvia Sutton and John Cornado Martinez in Sterling, Kansas. He passed away in Wichita, Kansas on the morning of October 5th, 2023 surrounded by the love and presence of his family.
Tony spent most of his life being a mentor to his family, giving guidance, support and bringing them closer to the Lord. Anthony graduated from Lyons high school in Kansas in 1974 and then continued his education to graduate from Sterling college with a welding certification. Throughout his life, Tony worked in other professions including being a roofer, where he worked alongside family and friends. He also worked for the Wonder Bread Company as a baker. Tony loved going fishing, he won the Angler award for catching a 80 pound flathead off the Lincoln Street bridge. He loved going on fishing trips with his nephews, Richie and Steven. Tony enjoyed walking. He would walk for miles just to clear his mind and talk to the Lord. Tony loved his family the most. He always went above and beyond to make sure his family was taken care of, no matter what that meant. He never asked for anything in return, except maybe a smile. Tony was the most kindhearted person who impacted many people's lives. Having Tony in our lives was a true blessing. Tony was many things- a brother, a cousin, an uncle, a great uncle, a friend, and now he is forever our angel.
Anthony is preceded in death by his parents , Sylvia Sutton and John Cornado Martinez, his brothers Steven Martinez, Henry Martinez, Jerry Martinez, Mike Martinez, David Mercer, and William Mercer. Anthony is survived by his sisters: Kay Ryan of Wichita, Kansas, Sherry Mercer of Derby, Kansas, and Sylvia Mercer of Tulsa, Oklahoma and countless nieces, nephews, and family members.
