Betty Jean (Coleman) Freeman, born on November 13, 1948, in Yazoo, Mississippi to William and Sarah Coleman, she was a beloved figure in her community. Growing up as one of 21 children, she learned the value of faith, family, and community at an early age.

In Salt Lake City, Betty met Leroy Freeman, her husband of 54 years. Together, they relocated to Wichita, Kansas in 1970 and embarked on a journey that would leave a lasting mark on the community. Opening the Han-D-Sak grocery store within the year, they created a hub that would become an integral part of the neighborhood. Countless individuals cherish memories of laughter and camaraderie shared within the walls of their store.

Betty's warmth and wisdom were legendary. Her home was a sanctuary for those seeking advice and solace, with her door always open to those in need. A true pillar of strength and compassion, she touched the lives of many with her kindness and understanding.

Beyond her nurturing spirit, Betty possessed a green thumb like no other. Passersby would often pause in awe at the sight of her meticulously tended garden, its vibrant blooms a testament to her skill, dedication, and love of life.

Betty loved God and lived for God. He whispered her name and called her to her eternal home on May 24, 2024. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Freeman, her parents, Will and Sarah Coleman, her children Leona and Jason, and many of her siblings.

Betty's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her boundless love, unwavering support, and radiant spirit will be dearly missed but forever cherished by her son Leroy Freeman, Jr; her daughter, Legina Freeman; two granddaughters, Sara Rainwater Freeman, and Elaine Freeman; special nieces, Regina Michelle Reaves Lane and Sebrena Reaves Govert; Godson Phillip Andrews and Goddaughters, Danita King Morris and Dottie Gray; her sisters Mary Robertson and Elaine Owens (sister and best friend); and brothers, Johnny Coleman and Willie Coleman; and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
