Debra Lynn Cherry-Blurton, 69 passed away on October 19th, 2022. She was born to Lyman and Melba Cherry on September 16th, 1953. The oldest of four and the only girl, Debi grew up so proud of her little brothers.
She was a graduate of North High School and met the love of her life, Roger Blurton, at Crystal Lake in the summer of 1971. They married in November of 1973 and had two sons, Steven Michael and Christopher David. She was a loving and hard-working mother, eventually owning her own hair salon which allowed her to work from home. Nothing was more important to her than her kids- biological, as well as the "extras" she found along the way. Her home was one where all were welcome and there was no need to knock.
She loved trips to the lake, the theater and any time she could gather with her family and friends. Debi was there to help care for her grandchildren when they were small and loved them fiercely. She built a balloon arch outside Hailey's bedroom window for her 12th birthday when there was no party in 2020. She recorded hours of Wild Kratts episodes for Isaac so he could add to his collection of science facts. She sewed a Renaissance Festival dress for Maggie by hand. Debi is preceded in death by her mother Melba Cherry.
She is survived by her husband, Roger, her sons Michael (Lindsay) of Wichita, Christopher (Kelly) of Wichita, her father Lyman Cherry of Wichita, her "bonus" son Randy (Jenny) Tener of Wichita, her grandchildren Hailey, Isaac, and Maggie Blurton as well as Caleb and Logan Tener, her siblings David (Robin) Cherry of Buhler, KS., Steve (Yolanda) Cherry of Battleground, WA., and Scott (Karen) Cherry of Sherwood, OR. as well as many nieces, nephews, special cousins, and friends that were family.
A Celebration of Life party will be held in the Blurton backyard at a later date- details to come.
