“BeeBop” was born November 15, 1948 to Elijah N. Carter Sr. and Almeta Johnson Carter in Jones, OK. Elijah got his nickname “BeeBop” from his uncles. At the age of 5 the family relocated to Wichita, KS on March 16, 1955. BeeBop attended Waco Elementary School, Park Middle School, and North High School. BeeBop never missed a day of school, no matter if it was raining, sleet, or snow, he was there. At around the age of 7 years old, along with his other 5 siblings were all baptized under the leadership of Rev. F.U. Reynolds at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. BeeBop was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for 70 years. Every Monday night during his younger years BeeBop and the boys from the neighborhood would perform in the talent show. They performed so well they called themselves the Temptations. At the age of 14, BeeBop was employed with the Board of Education. After he graduated from high school he went to work for Boeing. After being laid off from Boeing he went to work for the city of Wichita as a trash hauler until the trash hauler company closed it’s doors. He then went to work for Excel until they closed their doors. He was then hired at Farmland where he retired in 2011. He loved animals and if an animal got injured, he would do his best to nurse it back to health. He loved his nieces and nephews. His favorite quote for them was “I’m going to hit you on the top of your head.” His nieces and nephews loved him just as much. BeeBop was never married and never had any children. He is preceded in death by his parents Elijah N. Carter Sr. and Almeta Carter; brother Rev. Larry Carter and his little sister Linda Paschal. BeeBop is survived by and leaves to cherish his loving memory his sisters Louvenia Mitchell, Wilma Crayton, and Martina Waller; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
