Obituary

Joan Marie (Miller) Black passed this life to the next on August 19, 2023 in Haysville, KS.  Joan was born on January 24, 1936 at home in Ferguson, IA.  She attended school in Ferguson and then Central Christian College in Bartlesville, OK where she met Leonard Black.  They were married at 6am on Sunday, August 14, 1955.  Joan was a homemaker in support of Leonard as he preached the gospel in many locations around the country.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Black; both parents, Lloyd and Edith (Ferguson) Miller, her three sisters, Donna Bridges, Nancy Smoldt and Sally Fehrmann, her two brothers, Allen Miller and Milton Miller, a nephew, Daniel Smoldt, and her infant daughter, Melinda Ellen. 

She is survived by her children, L. David Black, Minda and David Smith and Laurel Zhang, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, seven nieces and eight nephews. 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 47th Street Church of Christ, 601 W 47th Street, Wichita, KS.

Memorials may be made to the 47th Street Church of Christ.
