Lakaii Paulette Johnson was born November 16, 1981 at Wesley Hospital, Wichita, Kansas. Her parents Cleotha (Alvin) Johnson, Sr. & Paula Johnson, endearingly nicknamed her “Pooh Bear, as the love and hugs she radiated was felt from the very beginning.
Raised in Enid, Oklahoma, she was the middle child among five siblings. Lakaii attended elementary through middle school before she and family relocated back to Wichita, Kansas in 1995. She finished her education and proudly graduated from Wichita East High in the year 2000, alongside her best friend and cousin Damita Burgess. In her early adult years, she lived life to the fullest, including traveling. She was baptized into Christ May of 1996.
She was always caring for others, even before she herself gave birth, to her self-proclaimed greatest achievement - her only child, Neriah Heavenleigh Johnson, in 2008. After her diagnosis, she selflessly devoted her time to Neriah, her pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Cleotha (Alvin) Johnson, Sr.,
mother Paula Jenise Johnson, and grandmother Sylvia Collins.
She leaves to be warmed by memories of her hugs: her daughter Neriah Heavenleigh Johnson and their faithful companion Lucy. Her siblings, Shawntia DeGraftenreed, Malesha Diggs (Jamaul), Vincent Roebuck, Cleotha Johnson, Jr. (Diedra) and Jocqulyn Johnson, her grandmother, Jessie Junious, aunts, uncles, 14 nieces and nephews and, 23 grand nieces and nephews.
She was, and always will be, the bridge of love that tied her family together. In her own way, she kept her family connected, even if she did so quietly behind the scenes. When she would simply mumble under her breath, her disapproval of our shenanigans, it never went unnoticed. It wasn't just family who felt her love; friends, neighbors and even "lil babies" as she called them, who wandered to her doorstep. She devoted her time, love, heart and soul to care 'bearing' for everyone she came in contact with. She Will Be Missed but Never Forgotten.
