Sabrina’s Journey
Sabrina R. Freeman was born on October 18, 1967, in Wichita, Kansas, to Richard Woods and Oneva Woods. Sabrina was one of six children. She accepted Jesus Christ into her life at an early age and was baptized on January 11, 1976, at the Church of the Living God in Wichita, Kansas, by Pastor Harold Edwards.
Sabrina attended East High School, home of the Blue Aces, and graduated on June 1, 1986. After completing high school, Sabrina worked many jobs, including positions at Excel and Farmland. In December 1992, she became employed with Sedgwick County, where she began her career as a County Field Appraiser and later advanced to Information and Assistance Supervisor. Throughout her years with the county, Sabrina also held several side jobs too many to count.
Sabrina loved being involved in the community and never met a stranger. One of her favorite side jobs was working at the local YMCA as a water aerobics instructor, where she encouraged many people to maintain their health and find strength in small efforts.
Sabrina was faithful in all that she did. She gave endlessly of herself and filled every room with smiles, laughter, warmth, love, and quiet strength. She found joy in caring for others and brought hope wherever she went.
Sabrina carried a spirit of resilience and servitude, always making others feel welcomed, valued, and seen. She was a devoted wife to Rodney Freeman for two years and a loving mother to D’Andre Crosby and Veronika Henderson. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, celebrating holidays together, and creating lasting memories.
She is preceded in death by her father, Richard Woods; her mother, Oneva Woods; her brother, Joel Woods; and her sister, Reenee Woods-Simon.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Rodney Freeman; her children, D’Andre Crosby and Veronika Henderson; her siblings, Twyla Anderson and Derrick Woods Donnell Woods and her grandchildren: Luke Henderson, Da’Nayzia Crosby, Za’Mariya Crosby, Ra’Myah Crosby, La’Raya Crosby, Ja’Leaha Crosby, Chandler Crosby, Makayla Crosby, Navaehia Crosby, Quincy Crosby, Ja’Air Crosby, Ja’Heim Crosby, and Za’Nyla Crosby.
She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews: Donyelle “Tish” Johnson, Tim Conde, Terry Anderson, Stephon Anderson, Jamie Woods, Derrick Woods, Alicia
Woods, and Briana Woods, along with a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Sabrina Henry, dedicated nearly 36 years to the Sedgwick County Appraiser’s Office, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, encouragement, professionalism, and joy that touched countless lives. Throughout her career, she served in several areas of the office, spending most of her years in Information and Assistance, where she became widely known as our exemption expert; her official title was Information & Assistance Supervisor. More importantly, she became someone people could always count on — whether they were co-workers, property owners, or friends in need of guidance and compassion.
Sabrina had a presence that could light up an entire room. Her warm smile, uplifting spirit, and infectious energy made every day brighter for those around her. She often greeted the office with her famous saying, “We are going to have another fun-filled day,” a reflection of the positivity she carried with her everywhere she went. Once Sabrina started laughing, everyone around her found themselves laughing too. Her joy for life was contagious, and her energy left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She was a remarkable leader, mentor, and friend. Sabrina believed deeply in lifting up and supporting those around her, always encouraging others to recognize their own strengths and potential. She saw the best in people and had a unique ability to make others feel valued, capable, and appreciated. Whether helping a co-worker through a challenge or guiding someone in their career, Sabrina led with kindness, patience, and grace.
That same grace extended to the public she served every day. Even when faced with frustrated or upset property owners, Sabrina remained calm, caring, and determined to help. There was never a problem she would not try to solve, and she consistently went the extra mile for anyone in need of assistance. Her knowledge, wisdom, and compassion made her an irreplaceable asset to the Appraiser’s Office, and her loss will be deeply felt throughout the organization.
To her co-workers, Sabrina was much more than a colleague — she was family. Many treasured memories were made during “girls’ nights out,” where laughter, conversation, and friendship were always abundant. She also shared her beautiful singing voice during office Thanksgiving feasts, creating moments that will never be forgotten.
Family was the center of Sabrina’s world. She deeply loved her husband, children, and grandchildren, and she spoke of them often with pride and affection. Her love for her family was unwavering and evident in everything she did. She was also deeply influenced by her parents, who helped shape the strong, compassionate woman she became. Her mother encouraged her to model at a young age, inspiring Sabrina’s signature sense of style and elegance. Sabrina dressed beautifully every day, always carrying herself with confidence and grace. Co-workers often joked that she rarely wore the same outfit twice, something Sabrina would laugh about warmly.
Her mother had left her a closet full of beautiful clothing, and it was easy to see where Sabrina inherited both her impeccable style and vibrant spirit. She embraced life fully and passionately. Sabrina loved water aerobics and eventually became an instructor at the YMCA, where she encouraged and motivated others on their own health journeys. It was another example of how naturally she uplifted people everywhere she went. Whether at work, with friends, or in her community, Sabrina made people feel welcome, supported, and inspired.
Sabrina carried herself with humility, gratitude, humor, and authenticity. She rarely wore jeans, but when she did, she paired them with cowboy boots that reminded her of her father. She declined office polo shirts because she loved expressing her individuality and taking pride in her appearance. She was strong, beautiful inside and out, and a genuine role model to many.
Above all, Sabrina had a caring heart and a gift for making people feel seen and important. She laughed with people during joyful moments and cried with them during difficult ones. She made people look forward to coming to work simply because of the warmth and positivity she brought into their lives. Sabrina never met a stranger. She touched the hearts of countless people through
her kindness, compassion, humor, wisdom, and unwavering spirit. Her absence will be palpable, but the memories she created, the encouragement she gave, and the love she shared will continue to live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Sincerely, Doting colleagues
